Twitter Tweaks Onboarding to Birdwatch Pilot, Visibility of Notes

Twitter detailed two updates to Birdwatch, the pilot program where invited contributors flag potentially misleading information in tweets and write notes providing context, which was introduced in January 2021.

The social network reiterated in a blog post Wednesday that only notes that are rated as helpful by a diverse group of contributors or that bridge across groups of people who tend to disagree are made visible in its feed.

On that note, the program’s new onboarding process assigns new contributors who meet its eligibility criteria—a verified phone number from a trusted carrier based in the U.S.,
