While news consumption on other social platforms has either declined or flattened, more adults in the U.S. have been turning to TikTok for news, according to a new study from Pew Research Center.
The think tank found that the share of U.S. adults who say they regularly get news from TikTok shot up to 10% this year from 3% in 2020.
According to Pew’s survey of 12,147 U.S. adults from July 18 through Aug. 21, 26% of respondents between the ages of 18 and 29 regularly get news from TikTok, up from 18% last year and 9% in 2020.
Meanwhile, just 10% of respondents 30 through 49 said they regularly get news from TikTok, and that number drops to 4% for those 50 through 64 and 1% for those 65 and older.
