Week of Feb. 24 Morning News Ratings: Today Snatches Top Spot From Good Morning America in Total Viewers 

40,000 total viewers separated the two morning shows

NBC News’ Today snapped ABC News’ Good Morning America’s two-week win streak in total viewers.

The competitive battle for the top spot favored Today as it dethroned GMA with +40,000 additional total viewers for the week of Feb. 24. 

The back-and-forth action for first place between NBC News and ABC News clouded the fact that they both lost total viewers compared to the previous week. CBS Mornings was the only morning show to record gains in total viewers and the advertiser coveted Adults 25-54 demo. 

Meanwhile, GMA was the only morning show to lose viewers in both measured categories during the final week of February.

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.685 million total viewers and 465,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of Feb. 24. Compared to the previous week, ABC News’ morning show fell by -4% in total viewers and -8% in the demo. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (Feb.26), GMA was down in total viewers by -6% and -12% in the demo. 

Today was in second place in total viewers and remained the No.1 morning news show in the demo, with 2.725 million and 679,000 viewers, respectively, for the week of Feb. 24. It dropped in total viewers by -2% but saw gains of +4% in A25-54 when comparing its performance to the previous week. Looking at the same week in 2024, Today was down by -5% in total viewers and -6% in the demo.

Coming in third place is CBS Mornings, with 2.025 million total viewers and 357,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. Compared to the previous week, CBS News’ morning show was up +1% in total viewers and +5% in the demo—the only morning show to record week-to-week gains in both measured categories. During the same period in 2024, CBS Mornings was down in total viewers by -10% and -22% in the demo.
