Yesterday, we told you about a story aired by KMOV that used an out-of-context interview as if it were intended to be part of an investigative story.
The story in question was about an investigation into the St. Louis Development Corporation, an independent economic development agency, and how it handled COVID loans.
The CBS affiliate issued a retraction and told its viewers that it had pasted an interview from the SLDC CEO, making it look like he was talking about the investigation, when he was actually talking about the agency’s Black History Month efforts from an interview held on another day.
The SLDC told TVSpy it wants more from KMOV. According to a spokesperson for the SLDC, it wants an apology.
SLDC is disappointed the retraction came with no apology or regrets. It also came 72 hours after the original error aired. The retraction also aired on a Friday afternoon.
From my experience, Fridays don’t generate maximum viewers like Monday through Thursday shows. I wonder if this was intentional.

While looking into this story, we came across another group looking for some sort of communication from KMOV.
The National Association of Black Journalists is still looking for answers about why the station used the word “colored” to refer to black folk in a story last March. The station apologized, but the NABJ also wants more.

We asked KMOV about it and will update when we hear back.
